LIS France reduces water footprint by reusing the equivalent of 16 Olympic Swimming pools

At LIS, we are driven by the Lesaffre group’s common mission to work together to better nourish and protect the planet. In this context, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of the Lesaffre strategy, with “Respecting the Environment” as one of its three key pillars.

Our French factory is situated near the banks of the Sienne River, home to a population of beautiful salmon, which we are keen to protect.

Improving our wastewater treatment and reducing our environmental footprint have always been top priorities, in line with the group’s CSR commitments.

LIS is fully committed to carrying out our activities with respect of the planet, local populations, and local territories, while remaining economically profitable.

Our ambitious new investments in wastewater reuse

To further enhance our environmental performance, we have made significant investments in upgrading our wastewater treatment capabilities.

This includes:

  • Filtering the water through a membrane reactor
  • Passing it through a permeate tank
  • Subjecting it to final disinfection via a UV reactor

This advanced process will allow us to reuse our wastewater in the output air treatment (wet scrubber) of our spray-drying towers.

Tangible results: 40,000 m3 of Water Reused Annually

We are proud to further reduce our environmental impact and contribute to more sustainable water management practices.

Through this ambitious project , LIS will be able to recycle 40,000 m3 of water per year, starting 2026.

This corresponds to approximately 30% of the site’s annual water consumption – the equivalent of 16 Olympic swimming pools.
